Fa’side Charity Marks VE Day in Style

Customers, volunteers, trustees and staff at Fa’side Community Kitchen marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with an inside street party. More than 50 people enjoyed afternoon tea and music, fit for the occasion, provided by local man, Davie Martin.

Chair of the charity, Tracey Redpath, joined the celebrations and spoke about what the day had meant to everyone.

“I want to begin by thanking all the people who have been involved in making today such a great success. An event like this involves a lot of work behind the scenes and I want to thank all our staff and volunteers who have gone the extra mile to get the hall looking amazing. The food has made this occasion so special. A huge thank you to Davie Martin for giving his time to provide the music. It was lovely to see people having a dance and singing along. And we also need to thank Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council for funding all the extras which made the day special.

“Today was all about remembrance. As well as remembering those who gave so much for our freedom, I hope we will remember today as a day of food, company and kindness, which is what FCK is all about.”

Customers enjoyed an afternoon tea of sandwiches, including the late Queen’s favourite round jam sandwiches, sausage rolls, pies and lots of sweet treats.

A couple of quotes from the day –

“I think today has been the best day of my life.”

“That was marvellous. What a special day.”

And overheard outside the bowling club, “You wouldn’t get better at the Ritz.”
